The exciting extended clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a aggregate 51 million spectators across the US, Canada, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball stated this is the highest-rated World Series finale since the 1991 contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday memorable contest secured over 27 million viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic game since the 2017 Game 7 between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game landed in 13th place.

Global Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English-language program in the country since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12 million. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – averaged over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Trends

The entire seven-game series averaged 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the complete American viewership was 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million watchers, an 8% increase over the previous year and the network’s strongest playoff performance since the 2017 season.
